On Thursday, January 17, 2019 the Filipiniana Fashion Show, Evening Gown, and Swimsuit Competitions were underway at the Okada Grand Ballroom. There was a baro’t saya fashion show, two evening gown competitions, and a swimsuit competition that took place.
The Miss Intercontinental team wanted to show their gratitude to the host country of the Philippines for allowing them to have the pageant on their soil by showcasing Filipino Designers’ talents. The Philippine Designers Filipiniana Fashion Show showcased all the contestants wearing different takes on the Philippines national dress: baro’t saya; no two looked the same. Some were the traditional shape but different colors, others had gems, appliques, and some were out of the box. For example, Miss Cuba’s (Cynthia Linnet Lau) baro’t saya had a “Havana”, Latin vibe to it especially with the hat incorporated. Glenn Lopez (designer of Miss Cuba’s baro’t saya) did an amazing job with bringing the Cuban fire to the Philippines.
Similar to the Philippine Designers Filipiniana Fashion Show, one of the evening gown competitions had each girl wearing Filipino designer gowns that was made specifically for them. The other evening gown competition was a traditional evening gown competition. The swimsuit competition was also held that night, and the contestants wore Hani Lim designed silver bikinis with multiple different necklines.
The following are the contestants who performed the best in each competition. I want to stress that a contestant could have done very well, but didn’t make the list because others gave a little bit more in performance.
